‘Broxbourne come from behind in an early start to win 3-2 at home to a strong Stevenage team. Broxbourne are still looking good at the top of the table’
An early start didn’t suit the 15 strong Broxbourne squad as Stevenage opened the scoring against the run of play with a deflected short corner, however Broxbourne soon recovered and converted a hard won short corner of their own with a move straight from this week’s training.
Although Broxbourne continued to dominate play with some silky ‘one twos’ Stevenage were dangerous driving forward. Broxbourne’ s captain did her best to hold them up with some unique tackling around the edge of the circle but an unfortunate deflection scored by the Broxbourne right back meant Stevenage went into half time 2-1 up.
The half time Haribo’s fired up the Broxbourne squad who were determined to keep a clean sheet in the second half, and convert some of their excellent attacking play. True to their word Broxbourne were first to score in the second half, again from a short corner – this time deflected by the Stevenage defender into the roof of the net. After a short discussion between the umpires the goal was awarded (quite rightly) and the game was all square again.
Broxbourne dominated possession and as Stevenage tired Broxbourne squeezed another goal into the corner of the net. Shortly after, one of the Broxbourne team received a ‘harsh’ green card and the team had a period of hockey with a player down, but everyone stepped up and covered the space excellently.
With some stunning runs forward by player of the match Darcy and no more own goals from donkey of the match Tara Broxbourne won their 3rd match in a row and remain unbeaten this season.
One spectator commented: ‘It was a tough match, they (Stevenage) were good, but Broxbourne were deserved winners’
