Broxbourne 2ndXI win another tight match vs Aylesbury 2ndXI ‘Broxbourne hold their nerve for a deserved 2-1 win over fellow former undefeated team Aylesbury’

A long drive to the other side of the county meant Broxbourne 2nd XI needed a good warm up and a strong team talk to prepare them for the challenge this week.
Broxbourne started the game strongly with long spells of possession, but Aylesbury looked dangerous on the break and the defense needed some disciplined marking to ensure we didn’t get caught on the break. When half time arrived Broxbourne deserved to be at least 1 up, however the Aylesbury keeper was making a number of great saves to keep them in it.
Some sound tactical changes were made at half time, including dropping the second line of the press to create some time and space, and players were urged to stay patient and play our own game and rewards would come… True to this 10 minutes into the 2nd half Broxbourne squeezed the ball into goal just passed the keeper’s left hand after a sustained spell of pressure in the circle. This was followed just minutes later with an exceptional strike from the top of the circle by Cerys Edwards – which earned her ‘champagne moment’
Broxbourne were now in cruise mode until an unfortunate own goal meant the final 10 minutes were tighter than Broxbourne would have wanted. With a number of crunching tackles from ‘player of the match’ and captain Millie and no more own goals from ‘donkey of the match’ the very same Millie! Broxbourne won their 4th match in a row and still remain unbeaten this season.
With next weeks game back on home ground, the target of – being top at Christmas is getting ever closer.
One spectator commented: ‘Broxbourne were made to work hard, but they stuck to their game plan and deserved the win - it was a great game to watch’
