‘Broxbourne play a great team game – for a deserved 2-0 1 win over a strong Shefford 1st XI’

After a tough game last week which saw the 2nd XI lose 4-0 to a good St Albans team, Broxbourne were going all out for the win today.
Broxbourne started the game as they meant to go on this week retaining possession of the ball as much as possible. Passing was slick and players were keen to take on the opposition with some very skillful play especially down the left hand side.

Broxbourne’s efforts were rewarded with a lovely goal from open play after a period of possession which saw the team camped in Shefford’s circle. Broxbourne were determined to apply as much pressure as possible were unlucky to go in at half time only 1-0 up.
With the half time team talk focused on being patient and enjoying the match as much as possible the players were ready for another strong second half.

The second half mirrored much of the first, with Broxbourne netting another fine goal from a long build up working all the way from back to front.

Champagne moment could only go to one player this week – Phoebe Hoskin, who was making a rare appearance due to her ‘wetball’ (netball) commitments! Her aerial ball from deep in defense to release the midfield was textbook.

Broxbourne were unlucky not to be awarded a third goal right at the end of the match, with the ball clearly heading towards goal the team were thwarted by the final whistle!

Christmas is only three matches away and Broxbourne are still top of the table.

One spectator commented: ‘You were really unlucky not to win that at least 4-0 – but a win is a win!’
