This week, it was an early start for the ladies 4s with a 10am pushback. This wasn’t helpful for Captain Tors, who had spent her Friday night drinking copious amounts of alcohol. Thankfully, temporary team manager Frankie was on hand with Coronas (which were appreciated post match).
The first issue was the not the slightly frozen pitch, but the fact that Tors won the toss, chose the badly frozen end and gave away the pushback. This was a source of entertainment for Mark and Tara our umpires.
It was a cautious start to the first half for both teams, and the desire was not to spend a Saturday in A&E. Broxbourne had a plethora of chances, which unusually they could not convert.
From a well worked short corner, the badgers were able to go into half time 1-0 up. Fuelled by Haribo and a pep talk, the second half was approached positively.
With the rising of the sun and Brawny taking off her hat, the team showed their drive and skill with an outstanding display of passing through all sections of the pitch and the goals began to flow. The next three came in quick succession, with 3 being scored in less than 5 minutes.
The final two were again well worked team goals, finished off superbly by the forwards.
Some great assists for Sue Thomas and Alice were on display and Roisin was a much appreciated addition to the backline in the absence of Frankie.
Goals this week were scored by Laura, Alice and Brawny (x4).
Player of the match went to Ella for her best performance in a match so far this season.
Donkey to Laura for arriving in the wrong colour kit.
Next week, we are away at WGC.
