Summary of all the results from this weekend's hockey at Broxbourne

Saturday 4th December 2021

Mens 1s
This weekend the 1st team travelled to the 1st of two trips to Ipswich to finish the year this week to play Ipswich and East Suffolk. Broxbourne made a fast start and scored a penalty corner courtesy of a Mitch Chapman flick. Broxbourne continued to dominate the early exchanges until an unfortunate yellow card was given to Will Fradley. Broxbourne then lost their stride and picked up another green card taking them down to 9 men. Ipswich and East Suffolk took advantage and converted two smart finishes to make it 2-1 at half time. Broxbourne started the second half as they had started the first but it was Ipswich and East Suffolk who scored first in the half after converting a penalty corner. Broxbourne piled on the pressure and Sam Groves' smart finish brought Broxbourne back into the game. Unfortunately, Broxbourne couldn't do enough to grab an equaliser and the game finished in 3-2 defeat. A strong performance again from the team with small margins making the difference.

Mens 2s won 2-0 at home to Royston Ms

Mens 3s lost 0-3 to Cheshunt M1s

Mens 4s lost 0 - 3 Hertford Mens 4s
The game on Saturday marked one of the better results of the season thus far for the Broxbourne Mens 4s. A 1-0 deficit at half-time ended in a 3-0 loss at full-time.

The first-half display was an incredibly spirited effort from the entire team. While attacking opportunities were limited, the collective defending was sufficient to prevent all but one breach just before the break.

Unfortunately, the second half went as it so often does for the Broxbourne Mens 4s. While there were some close chances that were sadly unable to be converted, the tired legs and diminishing prospects of a positive result affected the team cohesion and structure which was so impressive in the first half.

Still, it was a very respectable outing for the team with lots of positivity.

A special mention to the three debutants, Will, Tom and Elliot. The youngsters put in a fantastic first performance. Hopefully this will turn out to be the start of a long hockey career.

Ladies 2s lost 2-1 away against Harpenden L1s
A very frustrating result for the Ladies 2s, who despite missing a number of players and pulling in a super sub 12th player last minute, played generally quite well. A goal well placed around our GK put the opposition 1-0 up in the first 15 mins, however a well executed post deflection from Jess Iszatt from Broxbourne’s first attacking short corner leveled the scoreline. Harpenden managed to take a second goal from a strike hit very close to the wrong side of the D-line shortly before going into the half time break.
A dynamic Broxbourne team bounced out of their half time team talk to display some excellent hockey in the second half, creating a number of opportunities and winning numerous short corners. These unfortunately did not result in any further goals and the game finished 2-1 to Harpenden.

Ladies 3's went head to head with the Harpenden Ladies 2's this week. With one very hungover captain she managed to get a squad of 14 out on the pitch. Some good play and pressure on the Harpenden team gave us a 2-0 lead at half time. Harpendon came fighting back in the second half and scored from a deflected goal off of our captain’s stick. The final score was 3-2. Our goals were scored by Isobel, Charlotte and Hannah. Our player of the match was Hannah Fixter. Some amazing skills and runs. Our donkey was Ali for falling over ?. Also a big thank you to Harvey for helping us with umpiring last minute.

Ladies 4s took another great 7-2 win at home against Blueharts, read the match report here.

Ladies 5s
Having missed two weeks of matches, the 5s were looking forward to playing again & travelled to Luton to play Chiltern 2s. Despite the Chiltern defence being under pressure in the first half, Broxbourne could not score and it was 0-0 at half time. The beginning of the second half saw Chiltern almost scoring. This was turned around quite quickly and the Chiltern defence were again put under pressure. By the end of the match, Broxbourne finally got the results they deserved, winning 3-0, thanks to 2 from Milly Shand and 1 from Lisa Stamford. Player of the match was Ella with her sister Amy a close second.

Ladies 1s did not have a game this week, as their league is now finished for the mid season break.

Sunday 5th December
Unfortunately both the Ladies O35s and Mens O40s games did not go ahead as they were conceded by the opposition. This means that both teams will progress through to the next round of the cup.
