Broxbourne Ladies 1st XI put in a brave performance despite missing some key players

Broxbourne Ladies 1st XI travelled to Tunbridge Wells for their second game of the 2015-16 season. Since the team were missing a number of key players, they adopted a defensive formation for the first half of the game. Unfortunately, Tunbridge Wells sneaked a goal in the first 5 minutes after the Broxbourne defence found themselves over run with opposition players. Shortly after, a ball came crashing into the D, and a lucky touch put Tunbridge 2-0 up.

Nevertheless, Broxbourne HC kept calm and composed and took control of the game. With most of the possession in the second half, Broxbourne went on the offensive and came close on a few chances after winning 3 short corners. The best chance came from open play when a ball crossed into the D was put just past the post after a touch by Lucie Heyes. In fact, it was so close that the captain prematurely celebrated before realising the ball had snuck wide! Despite it being an incredibly hot day, Broxbourne midfield kept their legs going to keep a tight control of the middle of the pitch. Some excellent performances in the defensive line, like that from Charlotte Skipp, made sure no more goals could be scored by Tunbridge.

All in all, despite playing with a weakened team, Broxbourne put in a good and brave performance in difficult conditions. It was one of those games where everyone took a step up, raised their game and left it all on the pitch.
