Ladies end losing streak

Broxbourne halted a run of 5 consecutive defeats on Saturday when they took on Maidstone at home, with the result a nil all draw. Despite the change in fortunes, this game will be viewed as 'The one that got away'. Broxbourne exerted huge pressure on the Maidstone defense, creating many scoring opportunities, but never managed to rattle the onion bag. This was mostly down to the Maidstone goalkeeper, who was quite literally the rock in the Maidstone defense. The Broxbourne paper to the Maidstone rock came in the form of Emily Wilkins who came close to scoring 3 times with solo breakaways from the half way line, but the rock could never be smashed.

The first half saw many short corner opportunities for Broxbourne, but much to the frustration of Coach Matt, never converted - even with his wide range of ' I'm a little teapot' style hand signals. However, Maidstone were not starved of opportunities likewise, but their elaborate routines were foiled by the well drilled Broxbourne defensive short corner team and goalkeeper, Kim Banes.

The second half saw many more opportunites for Broxbourne, both from open play and short corners. Even start left-back Becci Pratt made her bid for glory, but narrowly missed the right post by 10 meters. Broxbourne's centre back received a green card for an alleged stick tackle in the dying minutes , but her team managed to hold on with 10 players following a string of short corners for Maidstone.

Broxbourne now lie within the relegation zone third from bottom in the East Premier League.
