Draw holds off Magpies from advancing above Broxbourne in Premier league

Broxbourne drew 1-1 on Saturday against visitors Harleston Magpies. This was an important fixture for both teams, only separated by a single point and both lying in the relegation zone of the East Premier League.

It was a close fought encounter with some clear cut chances for the home side in the first half. The best chance for Broxbourne occurred minutes before the half time whistle - Kay Finch swept the ball across the face of the goal and Charlotte Skipp was inches from deflecting the ball into the back of the net. Score remained 0-0 at the half time whistle. Another close chance came from a long corner, when Pip Evans made a punchy run into the D after receiving a quick pass from Em Wilkins on the 25 line. Evans's strike came just centimetres from going in, hitting the post.

However, the outcome of the game was to be decided by short corners. Broxbourne played their best period of the game just after half time, piling on the pressure in the Magpies' circle. After a number of close chances from short corners, Broxbourne's goal came from a superb finish by Emily Wilkins. The ball was dragged out by Becci Pratt, coming slightly wide to Pip Evans who sucked in the Harleston Defence before sneakily slipping the ball to Wilkins. Wilkins struck a powerful shot which was placed neatly out of reach of the Harleston keeper.

Following the break through goal, the Magpies retaliated with their own period of pressure resulting in their first short corner of the game. The ball was injected towards the post and deflected to give Kim Bames no chance in the home side goal. This left Broxbourne feeling like they'd been robbed by the Magpies.

Broxbourne play away to Bedford next weekend, which will be a tough test.
