The Badgers travelled to Harleston at Saturday and were beaten 4-2 in a high tempo competitive game.

Management News
Head coach Mark Pannell has received a one match ban due to his white board being in violation of FIH size restrictions. Panners did not travel to Harleston with the Badgers, leaving them in the capable hands of assistant coach Lucy Hoskins. The club are appealing the ban claiming that the white board looked bigger due to it being placed beside Gemma Wilkinson who is only 4 feet tall.
Player news
Cat Cattermole was unavailable for the Saturday fixture, being forced to self-isolate following umpiring a game where members of the Trump administration playing. She will hopefully return to Badger field for training this week.
Co-captain Becky Scarrot will be absent from training this week as she begins her key role in the UK’s covid testing strategy. Her ability to recognise even tiny changes in temperature has meant she can test up to 20 people simultaneously for symptoms of the disease. Chris Witty has compared Becky's role to that of Alan Turing's breaking of the enigma code in the 2nd World war. Scarrotts’ new prestigious role has left her in the media spotlight with the player, renowned for keeping her privacy, advisedly going to great lengths not to be photographed in a Norwich field/car park while changing after the game.
Goal-scorer Kay Finch's post game public spat with fiancee, international vodka taster, Steve Tart has also reached the tabloids in a controversial week for the badgers. The couple were due to select their vodka luge design for their upcoming nuptials planned for next August, but due to a mix up in transport Finch arrived 4 hours late and all the sculptures had melted and Tart had drank all the vodka. Finch, the club fixtures secretary, failed to recognise that a hockey match was longer than 25 minutes having predicted she would be back in London by 5pm following a 3.30pm pushback.
Charlotte Skipp's new sponsorship deal with UK company CurtainsDirect has resulted in £500 fine for the striker following an incident at training during the week. Skipp warmed up in a pair of leggings made from the company’s new floral pencil pleat range in direct violation of badger kit policy. At a recent press conference , she commented that she is relieved the disciplinary proceedings have finally drawn to a close, and that the fine will exactly not throw her finances off the rails.
Match News
Pre-game
The Badgers pre-match preparations were interrupted by a hoax phone call allegedly from the NHS claiming that star player/driver Lisa Banahan had to self-isolate and could take no part in the fixture. The instructions were to leave the other players travelling with Banahan on the side of the M11 and return to Hertfordshire. Luckily, team doctor Laura Wills saw through the fake covid guidance early doors and traced the phone call to a Norfolk location close the match venue. Team police officer PC Ford is working
with the Norfolk constabulary to try identify the source of the phone call. Previous calls to Emily Wilkins allegedly from the NHS encouraging her to play in game to reduce the risk of her contracting the virus are now being linked to the same Harleston based unregistered phone number.
Game
Although the Badgers conceded corners early in the game, they managed to keep the Magpies out in the opening minutes. The Harleston press put the Badgers back 4 under pressure especially from 16s and the ball was turned over a lot in the defensive 25. A short corner lead to the opening goal from the home side, just slipping in on the right post. The Magpies added one more to their tally from open play, but Broxbourne clawed one back after a well worked short corner being put away by injector Kay Finch. The Badgers went into half time with the score at 2-1.
The second half saw Broxbourne gain confidence and build play with some nice manoeuvres up the right hand side involving Em Wilkens Laura Wills and Tor Stacey. Unfortunately a crash ball into the Badgers D bobbled off Lisa Banahan’s stick leaving keeper Izzy Gardiner no chance. 3-1 to the home side. An aerial then beat the Broxbourne defense and a bouncing ball was deflected in to the badger net. The away team still managed to build passages of play with Gemma Wilkinson winning consecutive frees up the left hand side of the pitch leading to a short corner. Becky Scarrott's strike was too good for the Magpies keeper, resulting in a final score of 4-2.
Fan News:
There were two notably famous athletes supporting the Badgers from behind the wire fence on Saturday; Veteran England hockey star Annie Thomas and fitness boot camp insta influencer Sarah Gardiner. Charlotte Skipp's brother Oliver also came to watch. The Badgers are also looking forward to Sam Gates return at their next home fixture.

The Badgers travel to Wapping next week to hopefully pick up their first points of the season.
