Broxbourne 3 Long Sutton 1

Broxbourne continued their incredible home form making in three wins out of three this season at Badger Field as they beat a tough Long Sutton outfit 3-1. The Badgers have only lost once in two and half years on their home turf.

The home side's preparations were dealt a blow when veteran midfielder Alex Brown turned up late due to a misunderstanding over the start time. Broxbourne shrugged off the disruption and continued where they left off from last weeks fine performance against Bishops Stortford as they dominated the early goings.

The Badgers took a deserved lead in the 15th minute, George Blemkin made one of his trademark driving runs down the right baseline and his pinpoint cross found Chris Hopson who expertly deflected into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance.

Hopson then turned provider when his cross was met at the far post by debutant Chris Green who showed remarkable composure for one so young to finish with ease to make it 2-0 at the break.

Two goals down on the road Long Sutton had to react and began to press Broxbourne higher up the pitch. This tactic seemed to disrupt the home side and the fast paced passing game of the first half disappeared replaced by a more error strewn and turnover ridden performance. Broxbourne were relying on their defense to preserve their lead and centre back duo Josh Chapman and Alex Satwick answered the call with some expertly timed last ditch tackles and blocks to keep Long Sutton at bay.

The resistance was finally broken in the 60th minute when a deflected effort gave keeper Paul Staples no chance to set up a tense last 10 minutes. Brown's day then went from bad to worse when the midfielder reacted angrily to a hard challenge and petulantly slapped his assailant on the back. The veteran along with his opposite number from Long Sutton were both given a green card meaning both sides were down to 10 men. The Badgers didn't panic and soon restored their two goal advantage. Left back Luke Saunders played a one two with Henry House and then picked out an unmarked Green who notched his second and the Badgers third to make the points safe.

Next week the Badgers travel to Sudbury hoping they can replicate their home form on the road.
