Broxbourne 8 - 0 luton

Broxbourne second XI played their first away game of the season at badger field against Luton 1sts. In these Covid crazy times the fixture which should have been the final game of last season and the first of this years league campaign ended up being a friendly at home. It turned out to be a game of two goal keepers...

Broxbourne started strongly dominating possession and cutting the Luton midfield apart with probing runs from Dan “karate Kid” Ball and Ed House. One spectator commented that they felt the Luton midfield were still social distancing. Ed encouraged by the presence for his cousins fashioned a chance from close range, the Luton keeper saved giving Ed the chance to score over his prostate form but some how he clawed Ed’s effort away. This set the tone for the first 20 minutes with chance after chance falling to the broxbourne forwards from open play and penalty corners but the keeper amazingly kept everything out.

Luton’s only respite was a huge flick from the restarts but Joss chapman expertly pulled these out of the air or let them run harmlessly off the end of the pitch. With Crawley rampaging forward from right back looking every inch like Dan Henry and all three Houses demonstrating skill and pace eventually the Luton resolve failed with Miagy on the right beating two players before centering for Russ to expertly finish in the top left corner to leave the Luton keeper no chance despite his amazing form. Further goals from Mitch and a deft deflection from Jake followed before the pick of the goals Hoppo Jnr Jnr having observed the saves from the keeper deftly threw a dummy and pivoted beyond him before slotting the ball into the empty net.

The second half followed a similar patten with broxbourne playing some calipso hockey in the unseasonal sunshine. Fresh and Satwick kept it tight at the back while the rest of the team pushed forward. Short corner flicks from Crawley and Daniel San added to the total, before a second from Reggie. Probably the only surprise was that Ed did eventually manage to score after having countless shots saved, maybe practice makes perfect or the Luton keeper felt sorry having heard all the abuse oops I mean coaching from the sidelines.

Anyway the Luton keeper had probably been the best player on the pitch and conceded 8 while Ryan had been flawless, having not made a single save.

After that performance Lance, Gav, A Law and Browny might regret taking the day off to prepare for Sunday’s vets game.
