100% record up in smoke with last second decider

Broxbourne Mens 2 dropped their 100% record to an experienced Harpenden side, but maintain their top league spot on goal difference. The day started with confusion as Rhys Wyman failed to meet at the agreed time, blaming the website's incorrect match times (he hadn't noticed ALL matches had 3pm on them!)A quick dash from choir practice and Broxbourne were ready to start with their biggest squad to date.

The advantage of more subs and a new manager did not seem to be in Broxbourne's favour as the team seemed lethargic in both attack and defence, with 2 back post chances going begging, and Harpenden's forwards being allowed too much space to run into.

Despite a slow start, Broxbourne did open the scoring with Scott Weedon waltzing through the defence, ignoring 3 easy passes to smash home the ball on his reverse stick. The advantage did not last long though as Broxbourne's defence opened, allowing the Harpenden forward time to ease the ball past keeper Dan Podmore. Broxbourne looked at each other for blame, and Danny Copues selflessly took it on the chin. Unfortunately Copues then took it on the leg, injuring himself and signalling the end of his contribution to the game.

Into the second half, with both teams showing no hint of the form that put them at the top of the table. Broxbourne kept the ball in the opposition's third for the majority of the second half but could not take the lead. A resilient opposition defence kept Broxbourne's young forward line at bay, whilst several short corners still made no impact on the scoreline.

As Broxbourne pressed for a late winner, the ball was turned over. Harpenden played a long ball to the lone striker who made sure that Harpenden would walk away with 3 points. The full time whistle blew as an extension to the one indicating the goal, Broxbourne allowed no time to even push back from the centre spot. Harpenden seemed almost apologetic in victory, but Broxbourne deserved to take little from the game.

The team will be working hard in training on Wednesday before visiting local rivals Hertford this weekend, aiming to get back to winning ways
