Broxbourne 2s fell to a 2-1 loss against struggling Vauxhall on a day to be forgotten. Captain Richard Wilkinson's game started on the Friday evening with Vauxhall declaring they didn't have enough umpires, meaning that Adrian Crawley had to blow the whistle instead of throwing the aerials, which added to selection problems as players become unavailable.
The journey into and around Luton should have given Broxbourne a hint to the frustrating game they were about to play. Players seemed lethargic in the warm-up yet still confident that the run of high scoring wins in recent weeks was about to continue.
Registering little shots from a small amount of chances in the first half, a number of the team were showing frustration with each other. Broxbourne knew an opener was coming, but it didn't seem to be coming quick enough. Manager Mark Pannell's half time talk reminded players of their desire and the second half started in better form. Vauxhall however decided to take 20 seconds on every free hit, as well as a number of players spending time on the deck recovering from debatable injuries. The urgency of a Broxbourne goal was felt, and then delivered by Kris Prentice following good skills from a number of players including Hayden Adams and Dan Ball.
Vauxhall however won 2 short corners from their only umpire, which were dispatched to leave Broxbourne forcing an equaliser. With further time wasting, the game seemed to finish on Sunday and Broxbourne left Luton with no points.
The first half of the season is over, with Broxbourne in third place. Time to get back in the promotion places with a match against Cheshunt at home on the last game of 2015.
