Broxbourne 3s vs Stevenage 2s match report from 19-September-20
FINAL RESULT: Broxbourne 4 - 3 Stevenage
The 3s returned to action in peak physical condition and it wasn’t long before they went ahead via a perfectly executed short corner routine, which ended up with Scott Weedon slotting home at the near post to put Broxbourne deservedly 1-0 ahead.
Trying to hold on to this narrow lead was never a good tactic and Broxbourne seemingly forgot how to play hockey, which ultimately resulted in them conceding 2 goals before half time which put them 2-1 behind at the break.
Following the half time interval, an inspirational substitution paid off when Hayden Adams skillfully flicked a shot past the hapless Stevenage goalkeeper. The match was now level at 2-2.
Broxbourne picked up the tempo following this equaliser and it wasn’t long before James Cranfield put the hosts in the lead with an exquisite reverse stick volley.
Another well worked short corner routine came to fruition when Dan Hopson smashed in another goal for the Badgers, extending Broxbourne’s lead to 4-2. The Stevenage defender attempted to stop this shot on the line with his foot but was ultimately beaten by the pure power of the shot.
Stevenage managed to score a late consolation to make the score 4-3.
Broxbourne held on for the last few minutes and came away with the victory.
The performance was by no means perfect (it was pretty poor) but nevertheless it was nice to get back to playing hockey and start off with a victory following the long break.
