Unstoppable

Broxbourne (4)s - 7 vs MBDA (1)s – 3: 24th September 2016

After a tight win the week before Broxbourne 4s team were looking to gain another win against the MBDA men’s first team. It was predicted to be a tough game and the conditions before the match were tough for the Broxbourne boys, a windy away day in Stevenage on a sand pitch which is not what the team was used to.
The starting line-up was strong for the Broxbourne men using a 3-3-4 formation with Charlie Wooten in goal the strength of the experienced defenders, Kevin House, Tim McDonnell and Mark Rudd, the midfield line was equally as strong however with a few new faces in addition to the usual captain Matt Cassling and Nick Rowland, Trevor Walton, Michael Walton and Pat Seymour. Upfront there was only one extra addition to the normal starting four, Sam Groves on the right wing, Ed House and Matthew Rudd in the middle and Harry Brains on the left wing.
The start of the game started off with Broxbourne trailing 2-0 within the first ten minutes due to two unlucky slips through the defence and two good deflections through from their team. At this time the impact sub; Sam Groves came onto the pitch with Harry Brains and within ten minutes the sublime right winger had assisted three goals, two for Matthew Rudd and one for Patrick Seymour. This put the Badgers into a 3-2 lead and from this point forward for the fours team were not stopping. Tensions starting to flair between the badger’s captain and the opposing teams referee as he was threatened with a straight yellow card but luckily the team’s captain took the moral decision to sub himself off before he got himself into trouble. By half time the badgers were up to a 6-2 lead with another goal by Matthew Rudd, a goal from Nick Rowland and a goal from Sam Groves.
The second half seemed to be lot more relaxed than the first half where the two teams scored two goals between them with a final goal for Nick Rowland, there was two good chances for both ed house and Trevor Walton in the second half but both hitting the upright and horizontal posts which must’ve been agonising for the two players, however MBDA were turning on the counter attack a lot giving the defence a lot of pressure which lead to the team’s final goal. There was a good performance from all the new players to the team and a promising start to the season. A good match for the Broxbourne team and a strong start to the season putting the badgers at the top of the table.
