Still 2nd

Match Report vs Royston 2s
Going into the game, Broxbourne 4s have had a strong start to the season; placed 2nd, one point behind Shefford & Sandy.
We all came in with good spirit as Royston haven't had the greatest of starts to a hockey season, but we knew we couldn't take this match as an easy win. We realised that they had a very experienced back line, which would be hard to break down, and a very experience keeper too. However if we played nice, elegant, passing hockey, we knew we could come out winners of the game.
The match started; Royston were playing some very good hockey indeed, passing into space, and not giving away possession cheaply. However all of that changed in the 10th minute when a 16 yard hit was intercepted and the fantastic Ed House was there to slot it under the keeper to make it 1-0.
From then on, fair to say, it was mostly Broxbourne. Some brilliant play from the boys gradually lead to another from Matt Cassling, placed right into the upper Benjamins; some top quality skills from the skipper . It was apparent that a certain Matt Rudd couldn't make sure he did the important part of a short corner in stopping the ball, then getting out of the way of Matt! The chance, thankfully, from Royston down at the other end after the confusion, came to nothing though. Royston fought back though, after being a couple of goals up we thought we could sit back and be lazy on the ball – I’m afraid not... We gave away the ball cheaply in the midfield area. Leading to some good, well-worked chances from the visiting team. Fortunately, the experienced back line of Digger, John Edwards and Paul Kent saved the day and stayed solid throughout the game.
Half time, Broxbourne 2 – 0 Royston…
The second half started; and again it was Royston who started as the better side, it didn’t help the fact that they had youth players in their team as they looked like they weren't breaking a sweat at all!
This eventually changed – we dug deep and managed to create some good chances. Arnie showed off some class with a brilliant chest-height-hook into the back of the next, and perhaps the greatest goal of them all (you always save the best till last) came from a talented young striker – a certain Matt Rudd, when Matt Cassling weaved through a couple of defenders into the D when Matt Rudd had to smash it home with pure power and technicality to make it 5-0 with a minute to go. And before you knew it, the full time whistle blew.
A good performance from the Badgers, they played a side that played some brilliant hockey throughout the game, and quite frankly, they should not be bottom of the league after a performance from the visitors – a very good performance from a very good team!
Next week is a tough game, 1st vs 2nd, Shefford & Sandy vs Broxbourne. Hopefully, the home advantage will give us the slight edge next week, should be an enthralling, exciting, exasperating game.
Training as usual on Wednesday, with an important, must-win game on Saturday...
Up the Badgers!!!!
