Shefford and Sandy 3s v. Broxbourne Mens 4s Match Report (26th Sept)

Unfortunately the Mens 4s started off the season with a 4-2 loss against Shefford and Sandy, though there were many positives to be taken from the game.

After conceding a disappointing early goal, a quick response was needed; which Martin Nash promptly delivered, putting Broxbourne on level terms.

With 3 players having not played a competitive match for between one and three years, in addition to debutant David Green transitioning from long-time spectator to a playing role, cohesion within the team was going to take time to achieve.

Sadly, two more sloppy goals were conceded in the first half, though not without a number of great chances being produced at the other end.
Thankfully, a fast start to the second half gave Broxbourne a lifeline back into the game. A fantastic run from Lee Richards was finished off by Jonny Briggs, who maintains his ongoing goal-per-game habit.

However, none of the abundance of well-worked opportunities that followed could be converted and with Shefford scoring a late, great, individual fourth goal, the game was put beyond Broxbourne.

Still, there were plenty of positives for the season ahead. The younger players put in a fantastic, tenacious shift and those returning from long absences showed that their abilities haven't diminished.

Hopefully the Mens 4s can accrue their first points in their home game next week against St Albans 8s.
