3 points for the Broxbourne Mens 4s! Another amazing second half performance earns the Mens 4s their first win of the season in another intense game against a St Albans team.

With the rare luxury of a sub, Broxbourne looked to improve their chances of victory from the challenges of last week, though with an inexperienced and aged team (against theoretically stronger opposition) things were unlikely to be easy.

This proved to be the case when a slow start from the offensive players resulted in the defence having to deal with wave after wave of St Albans attacks. Through skill, determination and no small amount of luck (with St Albans hitting the post twice) the defence and goalkeeper were able to keep things goalless at half time.

With the pressure on their back line expected to increase further in the second half, it was vital that the offensive players improved on their first half performance. An intense team talk at the break seemed to have an effect as the game changed dramatically after a short while. St Albans briefly continued their control of the game, with Max Hartwig-Green's goal coming very much against the run of play. However, Broxbourne's prospects suddenly seemed a lot more positive and the balance of play began to alter. A fantastic move doubled the lead, with David Green beating his man and playing a perfect through-ball to Bobby who went on to beat the opposition keeper.

The highly impressive hard work, determination and intensity shown by the entire team kept St Albans at bay for much of the second half. Unfortunately, a defensive attempt to deflect a lifted long-distance pass away from a St Albans striker inadvertently put it directly into the path of another. The youngster took advantage and beat goalkeeper Charlie Wootton to give the vistors a chance of getting something from the game.

11 minutes of the match remained, but while the Broxbourne nerves mounted, clever game-management improved the odds of holding on for the win. There was to be a final goal in the game, but was in fact scored by Broxbourne. Bobby scored again to confirm the well-deserved win.

All of the Mens 4s players should be very proud of another exceptional second half effort, though it is imperative that stronger starts are made in the upcoming games.
