Rickmansworth Mens 2s 2-1 Broxbourne Mens 4s
The Broxbourne Mens 4s travelled to Rickmansworth on Saturday afternoon knowing that their depleted team of 9 players faced the prospect of another heavy defeat. However, the sight of Hayden and KP arriving to assist was an extremely welcome one.
The Mens 4s went on to play one of their best games of the season, with the defence standing strong and the forward players creating plenty of chances. Unfortunately, none of these could be converted and so the half-time score was a positive, albeit mildly frustrating 0-0.
The second half continued in much the same fashion. That is until Rickmansworth capitalised on a rare defensive error and took the lead. The likelihood of defeat then seemed to be sizable, given Broxbourne's difficulty thus far in converting their substantial possession and created opportunities into a goal. Nonetheless, an equaliser was indeed eventually found courtesy of Kris Prentice. A scramble in front of the Rickmansworth goal was concluded with the ball slowly making its way over the line.
While a draw could have been viewed as a fair result, Rickmansworth had other ideas. They soon again found themselves in pole position to take all the points when they scored a second well-worked goal, following a crucial loss of possession by Broxbourne in midfield and the defence's inability to stop the attacking move.
Sadly, there was little time for Broxbourne to respond and the lack of clinical finishing, coupled with the costly errors in defence had proven to be sufficient to result in another loss.
Still, it was a very positive display from the team and the outcome was far more favourable than that which was envisioned by the original 9 players when they arrived pitch-side before the game. However, the Mens 4s search for their first point continues.
