Broxbourne Mens 4s 2 - 5 Royston Mens 2s

The first official home league game for the Broxbourne Mens 4s (those prior had been conceded and played as friendlies) was against Royston Mens 2s. Having lost earlier in the season to their 3s (albeit with Broxbourne playing with 9 players and no keeper), it was evident that the game was going to be another tough one.

However, the 1-2 half-time score line in Royston's favour flattered the opposition. Broxbourne had managed to create a number of good opportunities to score, though unfortunately were only able to convert on one occasion. Having received the ball from an incisive pass by a Broxbourne defender, Chris Hopson proceeded to expertly navigate through the Royston defence and score an impressive goal.

While the game continued in much the same way at the start of the second half, the Broxbourne legs eventually began to tire and, with the assistance of a clinical short-corner striker, Royston were able to take their tally up to 5. Still, a second goal for Broxbourne was a small indication of the tremendous effort and impressive ability shown by the team. Particular credit must be directed to the newer members of the team who have repeatedly shown that they are able to put in strong performances against vastly more experienced opposition. The second goal was scored by Andrew Dean, who pulled off a clever stop and turn manoeuvre before firing past the Royston keeper from close range.

A special mention to Joe Wilkinson for assisting the 4s with a fantastic performance in goal and to Jonny Briggs for his last-minute transition from player to umpire. Thank you both.

It was also great to see Chris Hopson make a return after a very lengthy time out due to a major injury.
