The Mens 4s faced the daunting task of competing against a strong St Albans side, with Broxbourne having only 11 players (a number of whom were unwell or carrying injuries).
However a strong start to the game enabled the home side to take a surprising lead, once again scoring via a short-corner. Matt Baker claimed his first goal of the season, albeit with a large helping of luck. A great flicked shot towards goal fortuitously found its way in via a deflection off of an opposition player.
Incredibly, the lead was soon doubled by some quick-thinking and skillful play from a dead-ball situation. Devon Jardine converted the fine move with a reaching reverse stick finish. The question that followed was could the Mens 4s retain the lead this time, having failed on multiple occasions recently.
The answer looked to be a concerning one, as St Albans later scored from a short-corner of their own. The half-time whistle swiftly followed, allowing Broxbourne the chance to consider their options in their attempt to maintain their now slender lead.
As one would expect, St Albans controlled much of the play in the second half and the home side found themselves unable to produce much of an attacking threat. Nonetheless, Broxbourne's highly spirited efforts proved to be sufficient to repel the waves of St Albans attacks. Despite the immense, mounting pressure as the final whistle drew ever closer, the Mens 4s did enough to see out the win. The end of the highly competitive game was met with great relief and joy by the eleven Broxbourne players and numerous spectators.
The special mention this time goes to the entire team, every single player. The outstanding effort and determination displayed was incredibly impressive to see. With the next game not taking place until 26th February, the team is afforded an extended period of time to savour the positive result.
