A game of two halves for Broxbourne.

A game of two halves for Broxbourne.

Broxbourne 4s knew that the match today would be a challenging one with the team down to bare 11, due to unfortunate injuries further up the club. Thankfully a last minute text from Amelia, provided a sub for the first half, which was greatly appreciated.

Before the game even started, Roisin placed herself high on the list for Donkey after an incredible fall and roll during the warm up!

After the mess up during the match last week, Tors won the toss and opted for the first pushback. This set Broxbourne off for a great start and they found them self 2-0 up in 3 minutes. This goal tally was added to by two more (including a bobbly ball from Brawny). This week the goals were scored by Brawny and Laura (Thank you to Laura’s mum for letting her play!)

The first half was dominated by Broxbourne, led through the middle by Ella, supported by Sue and Bryony Some fantastic transfers across the pitch from the back and great work on the wings from Thommo and Fixy brought the ball constantly in the the attacking D. As with all our matches, there were some missed opportunities and we are incredibly proud of Ella for having the confidence to step up to try the penalty flick.

The second half saw WGC come out and pile on the pressure. Changing their positions and displaying some fantastic pressing put Broxbourne under pressure. The defence as always stood up to the challenge and Georgia was quick off the mark to clear her line and take down the players approaching her goal.

The last phase of the goal saw an unfortunate deflection from Jayne’s shin pad go through Georgia, but with only 3 minutes to go, Broxbourne sealed the win 4-1.

The game didn’t flow, as in previous weeks and the width didn’t seem to be there, but with no subs, it was a good solid effort and the desired outcome was achieved. Now, with the week off and half term, it will give the team time to reset and push the final 5 matches.
