On her head (Take 2)

The Ladies 4s took a trip to St Albans this week to take on their Ladies 7s. Inspired by the orange of the Tangerine Army, the sun shone on Pitch 2.

As expected, the game was a tough one to start. With the fixture being played on the pitch before having run over, Broxbourne were given less than 10 minutes to warm up and prep.

Fortunately, with no hangover and just an unnecessary trip to Hitchin, Captain Tors was on form in the coin tossing and won the toss again. This as always created a moment of panic whilst she consulted Georgia and Brawny on direction of play.

Unusually for Broxbourne, the game in the first five minutes was mainly in their defending end but the job was done and the ball was adequately sent down towards our attackers. With the welcomed return of Alice, despite feeling rather rubbish and full of cold, our mid was at full strength and this showed in holding off any feisty attacks from St Albans. Also back in the starting line up was Frankie, whose cracking fire bolts down the pitch found the attackers on many occasions and left St Albans behind the play.

Once Broxbourne found their feet, there was no stopping them. Bizarrely the attackers were left with lots of space and this allowed great runs to be made on both sides of the pitch and in the mid.

The goals began to come (some rather more impressive than others) and Broxbourne led 5-0 had half time.

The second half saw Jayne P standing strong on the right, cutting out a number of the runs and some outstanding link up play between Zara and Ella.

St Albans seemed to have a plethora of players on the sideline, in comparison to Brox, but the consistent passing and teamwork that has served Broxbourne well this season come out.
We fortunately did have a sub though when Brawny for the second time this season received a fantastic hit to the head by a deflected ball.

It may have appear to the opposition that we are unkind but knowing Brawny and the humour of the team, she was quickly off the pitch with an ice pack and a woolly hat.

The final score was a whopping 8-2 to Broxbourne, with the team’s 100th goal being scored by Brawny (who scored a hat trick +1), Meg, Thommo, Fixy and Alice.

Player this week was shared between Brawny and Sue T and donkey back at home with Tors.

Next week sees the penultimate game against Berkhamsted and Hemel 3s at home at 11am.
